Maine Tpke / I-95 North · mile 25 · open 24/7

It's right on the way — you pass mile 25 before the Portland exit (mile 48), so it's no detour. Last full-service plaza with fuel before you leave the interstate. Top off here, because once you exit at Portland for ME-302 it's two-lane road with no plazas the rest of the way.

Chaffin Pond — Donnabeth Lippman Park, Windham

ME-302 W · Windham, ME · optional leg-stretch on the 302 stretch

~6.5 hrs cumulative · only real stop on 302

There's no service plaza on the ~2-hour 302 leg, so this is the one good dog break along it. A 123-acre town park with a pet-friendly trail circling Chaffin Pond, a parking lot, and picnic tables — right off the route early on 302. Let the beagle properly stretch before the rest of the two-lane drive. (In a pinch, Pondicherry Park in downtown Bridgton works too, later on.)

Beagle field notes 🐾

  • Leash on at every stop — beagles bolt the second they catch a scent, even inside fenced runs.
  • Collapsible water bowl + bottle up front; offer water at each stop.
  • Never leave her in the car in the heat — late June can spike fast even with windows cracked.
  • The 302 leg is slower two-lane road — build in the cushion so nobody's rushing at the end.

I-84 West · Connecticut · near Danbury if needed

Beagle field notes 🐾

  • Leash on at every stop — scent-driven and quick to bolt, even in fenced runs.
  • Water at every stop; collapsible bowl within reach.
  • No car alone in the heat, even briefly.
  • Quick sniff-walk before each re-load keeps her calm for the next leg.
